Ridemakerz: Build Your Ride and MommyParties

Last month we were lucky enough to be chosen to host a Ridemakerz Xtreme customz party through MommyParties. It was perfect timing too because Turtle’s 7th birthday was coming up and it happened to fall during spring break!

The boys who came (and the tomboy princess gal) who came got super excited when they learned they were all getting their very own Ridemakerz car to build. The excitement only got louder when they saw the cool selection of cars available. We were sent 10 awesome sets.

2 of the Batman sets                                       One pretty blue MustangIMG_2389IMG_2391

2 of the Police cars                                                  One shiny green Dodge Viper

One red Corvette with flame detail                            Two sets of Spiderman cars

One desert camo truck

And a partridge in a pear tree… ;-P

IMG_2388We had these amazeballz rainbow cupcakes with rainbow swirled frosting. They were almond flavored and were Turtle’s special request for his party.

As you can see all the kids had a blast building their Ridemakerz and showing off their creations. I asked them all if there were anything they’d do to improve them and not one of them could come up with any improvements. To be frank, neither could I, these sets are really cool and I can’t wait to get more of them to add to Turtle’s Batman and have a Ridemakerz collection.

I have the Rainbow Connection song stuck in my head now. So I’ll leave you today with the lyrics:

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they’re wrong, wait and see.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it’s done so far.
What’s so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it’s probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I’ve heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it.
It’s something that I’m supposed to be.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Happy New Year

So this was like a preview of the future.

They look like frat boys. Red solo cups and all. The oldest was suspicious of the bubbly beverage, as if I was giving him alcohol… Teetotaler.

Happy New Year everybody!!!

Sending you all blessings for 2012:

“May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May God be with you and bless you;
May you see your children’s children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.”
-Traditional Irish Blessing

Feeling a little blue…

No, not that kind of blue.

This kind: On Sunday a select group of the coolest kids in the universe came over for a Smurf Blu-Ray/DVD release party. I was chosen (with probably 10,000 others) to host a party about the movie through Crowdtap.

I had a Smurf sized budget so I went to the dollar store and bought blue decorations. Stumbled on these blue juices that were low sugar. Since it was a little kid party I went with junk food and pizza as the food theme. Unoriginal but it works. The tablecloth is blue I swear! This pic has a pink tint for some reason. We were sent a digital media kit with activities but we made our own Smurf games to play.

It was such a beautiful day for December that I just didn’t want to waste it. I dyed a bunch of eggs blue and we had a Smurf race. The kids and parents had to hold their egg in a spoon and race across the yard without dropping the egg. Here is everyone all lined up and ready to go! I was impressed with the abilities of even the smallest participants in keeping their egg on their spoon.

Look at those mad skillz! Rock on little Princess!

We also did a SmurfTossing game.

Evil. I know. I imagine Gargamel has a similar game before he eats them. Why does he want to eat them anyway? I’ve never figured that out. I can’t imagine that a Smurf is very tasty. How many of them would you have to eat to get full? They’re tiny!

I digress, back to the game. One Mommy had the misfortune of aiding in the demise of one of our Smurf eggs. See the other poor unfortunate Smurf soul on the sidewalk. One of the little fellows at the party had the best time smashing Smurf eggs. Complete with evil cackle.

Another Smurf egg took a Kamikaze dive into the side of the house. After the games we watched the Smurf movie to wind everybody down.

Kids are amazing multi-taskers. Look at Turtle. Eating popcorn, coloring, and watching the movie. The kids enjoyed the movie and the grown-ups had fun just hanging out. Great play date! Need to do them more often. Thanks to Crowdtap and The Smurf Movie for the opportunity to have a fun time.

I love Halloween

These were an all day project. Who knew such little things could be so much work. They came out better than I thought they would for a first attempt. Need to figure out how to make the chocolate go on smoother though.

They’re made with boxed mix carrot cake and store bought cream cheese frosting. I just cannot fathom baking a cake and making frosting from scratch to mush it all together. That’s just a waste. BUT next time I have leftover cake, I know what I’m doing with it. 😉

Vote for me!

Gratuitous self-promotion in the vain hope that I will win a prize on the Book of Face. Laptop Lunches is holding a photo contest on their Facebook page and they’re giving away a gift card for use on their site. I would love to update Turtle’s lunch bag with their new 2.0 Bento set (WITH ALIENS!)

If you use the Laptop Lunch system – head on over to the contest details page and learn how to enter your own creation before the contest 10/17.

Oh and go vote for me! Mine is the lunch with the two ham piggies. 😉

If you enter, I will go vote for you, just let me know which one is yours.

So Happy Together

I’m baa-aack.
I have been such a slacker when it comes to writing. I’ve got a few excuses but probably the worst one is that I had some stuff due at work last week and it cut into writing time… at work. Shhh.
We had a super busy weekend. Captain Daddy drove up to spend the long weekend with us. It’s one of the best things in the world to see Turtle’s face when he sees that Daddy is home. That joyous yell of, “DADDY!” and the full speed launch onto Daddy always brings a tear (or 3) to my eye. Even Giraffe had a big gummy grin and excited coo when he spied the big guy.

Here they are watching some football game. Or an episode of Sergeant Frog. That is one funny, yet very strange, show.
At any rate, I haven’t been very creative with the lunches lately but I still took pictures. If nothing else maybe one day Turtle will read this and see how much I love his little stinky butt.

20111010-235148.jpg The wheels on the bus go round and round. PB&J bus with cheese windows and wheels. Cheese straws. Monterey Jack cubes. Apple carrot sauce and grapes. Just now realized how much cheese is in this lunch. Oops. I do think sometimes that Turtle is part mouse. He eats cheese like it’s going extinct.
I also made some yummies for Giraffe. Peas, carrots, and butternut squash.
Note. When cutting butternut squash, make sure the squash is dry or this can happen.

20111010-235526.jpg I know better too. Not my brightest moment for sure. Giraffe will know how much I love him by my willingness to bleed for the kid.
It was worth it though for me to be able to make stuff that looks like this for him.

20111010-235731.jpg Doesn’t that just look divine? Peas, blueberry-oatmeal mix, and carrots. Gorgeous.
Jarred stuff just doesn’t have that same vibrancy. Homemade smells better too.
The last picture tonight is one of the last-minute-mommy-is-exhausted lunches.

Mini cheese ravioli from Trader Joe’s in marinara with pizza blend shredded cheese. Goldfish bread toast. Berries and yogurt.
Good night. Talk to you again soon.
